How do I take apart a Rowenta DE-871 steam iron?

The top section has come loose at the pointed end, and now feels unsafe to use, though the iron still works. Two screws in the back (cord end) loosen that end, but can't figure out how to separate the "front" end. No screws visible, and it's not clear which section has to be separated first.

I had a problem getting the back plate off where I saw one visible screw (with a star head). I check this forum, because I couldn't pry the back plate off, and after reading this forum I realize the top portion around the cord had to be pryed upward in order to release the back plate.

Jerry's answer of 2006 was the successful answer for me. I have model DE-871 with loose sole plate.

I had the same problem with a model DE-831 and I couldn't determine how to get the front loose also. What I finally did is went looking for parts and discovered the filler piece is sold separately. It turns out on the 831 that it snaps in. I was able to use my finger nail to catch the edga and pop it out. Under the filler was another screw. Hope that helps.
