Dear, Vista user.
I ran in the same problem, but I think I solved it.
How to install Lexmark X4270 Printer with Windows Vista
a)Do not use the disc that came with the printer to install.
b)Uninstall the driver from your computer if you did the above.
c)Do not plug your USB printer cable at this time.
d)Go to this Lexmark address:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:439:0:0&searchLang=en&os_group=Windows%20Vista&target=
e)Click the “Download Now” button.
f)Optional: Go make yourself a sandwich cause it will take a while.
g)When done. Close everything.
h)In your computer go to: Computer, Local Disk (C), Drivers, printers, 4200
i)Click on “Setup” application.
j)Turn your printer ON and have your USB cable ready.
k)When asked what connection to use. If using USB cable, just plug. The rest will be loaded automatically.
l)Optional: Go take a walk; it will take a few minutes more but you’re almost done.
m)Last it will ask you if you want to print a test page. Go ahead if you can afford it since it prints a nice picture quality one.
n)Obligatory: Congratulate yourself you just overcame technology improvement with Vista.
Enjoy!!!
Not quite yet. Your Printer is working but your Scanner is not.
How to make your Lexmark X4270 Scanner work with Windows Vista
a)Remember the disc that came with your printer! Go get it. You need the OCR application.
b)Put in but don’t do “auto run” just open the files and go to “OCR” and hit “Setup”.
c)Let it load, once you’re done, your done. You should now be able to scan direct to different applications like Word, Power Point, PDF, etc.
Now you can enjoy!!! Hope this work for you, as it did for me.
Not sure if it will work for everybody though.
