Can I drive my Ford KA 1300 - needs new coil pack/plug leads?

My KA needs a new coil pack and spark plug leads. Is it okay to drive it whilst I am waiting to repair it or will I cause serious damage by driving it. I would apprieciate and explanation as to what the parts do.

you can drive your car . but you risk damage to the exhust system and the cat with unburnt fule .it could cause a backfire when it gets very hot .not worth the risk;;;;;;;;

Sharon,
This is a good forum for KA owners:- http://www.myka.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum.php

Sharon,
I would try changing the plugs first & see if the misfire disappears. If not, then change the leads.

Misfire may be just plugs or leads.

Sharon, NO NO NO!!!
Sorry Paul but the potential damage can be terminal!
A coil pack generates the spark to ignite the fuel, the spark leads carry the spark into the engine.
Driving a car with a broken coil pack can damage various parts of the engine.
OK so maybe the garage IS lying, do you really want to take the chance.
A simple test can be done with a type of strobe light to diagnose whether it's a misfire or the coil pack.
Ask the garage to "strobe test the spark", if in doubt, get a second opinion, it's not worth the potential damage to the engine. A new coil pack fitted should be around £60 to £90.
Kind Regards,
Simon.

No problem driving it, they provide the spark to the engine. The garage are probably making money out of you or fixing a misfire???
