Why does my v reg (2000) 1.8 td diesel ford mondeo cut when driving?

Why does my v reg (2000) 1.8 td diesel ford mondeo cut out when driving.I have changed the fuel filter, the seal is ok and i put a new diesel primer pump on.I put a clear fuel pipe on and there is air bubbles going through, can anyone tell me what is wrong and to tell me how to repair it, as i cant afford garage prices.

Hi clive,i have done everything you have mentioned, the car would just stop while driving as if you were turning the ignition off. But could not do with out the car, so put it in the garage, the cause was blocked fuel pipes and the primer pump that was put on was faulty and the crank shaft. But thanks for the advice.

Hello michelle
I am no expert, as my Mondeo is presently with a Ford Dealer with a suspect fuel pump. However, I have "Googled," and found other faults causing the Mondeo to cut out as you described.
Apparently the fuel filter can let air in, but you say you have changed the filter. It would help if you could say how the engine stops e.g., misfires for a while, ticks over ok, stops while trying to rev the engine? etc. If the air is the problem, you could possibly attach a temporary fuel line and supply fuel from a can. Perhaps someone helping might be a good idea, as you will have to be careful you do not spill diesel over the exhaust etc.
