I have same problem with a pro 4200 laptop. it was from a worker in our company who quit and as revenge set the bios passowrd so that it became unusable.

yes, well, every computer isn't stolen that you don't have a password to. I have several that are old, and i simply haven't used them in a while and have forgotten the password. Also, even if you get one that might have been stolen, where are you gonna take it to find out? Rightfully so, also, it would only end up in a landfill if it became unusable. Oh yea, I also purchased one at a good will one time and had to bypass the password to be able to use it.

remove the cmos battery then start up the laptop.
leave it running for about 1 minute in this time the screen should be blank. then switch off replace cmos battery then start up again. try that.

Check toshiba's website to see if your laptop falls under the problem they've had with bios passwords. Their only solution offered is to send it to them to have it fixed.

They are there to make stolen machines useless and it works. If it is your machine you should know the password. If it is a second hand machine ask the vendor. If he/she doesn't know it then it may be stolen.
