Gilera DNA 125 (02/03) starts up OK but won't move, whats wrong?

I've just bought a Gilera DNA 125 which starts up fine pretty much everytime but when you accellerate it doesn't move. Even when it's on the stand the back wheel doesn't move and if you accellerate too much it stalls. Any ideas what's wrong with it and is it something simple, or have I been sold a completely duff bike?

If the rear wheel doesn't spin at all then I guess the drive belt has snapped - its behind the aluminium casing on the side, and connects the centrifugal clutch to the rear wheel via pulleys.
