Would this work for a 2004 scenic (tenp reading is low) .

Ok, gave this a go, admittedly on a Clio, not a Megane. 1. you can't reach 2 of the release clips for the housing, so scratch the clip nearest to the body of the car, at the mirror hinge as it were. Third one is behind the mirror mechanism, and so inaccessible without removing the whole mechanism, but luckily didn't break. 2. The sensor is on the driver's side, at least on a UK car, so scratch the second inner clip taking that housing off. 3. The sensor is not prise outable, it's held in with a star shaped nut. 4. the wiring is grouped with the wiring for the mirror moving mechanism with a covering plastic sheath and I'm not getting into cutting tight wires and trying to solder/twist/heat shrink anything like that. Took photos but can't see a way to add them to this post.

Nick Gilbert,
Thanks for the description. I changed my temp sensor just how you described.

Nick Gilbert, thank you! Been looking for the answer of how to replace the sensor all over the place!

The outside air temperature sensor costs £15 on ebay, or £54 from Renault. They charge about £30+ to fit it and it seems like a fairly easy DIY job!

For anyone else searching, the sensor is on the bottom of the passenger side wing mirror, looks like a black rain drop. This seems the case for most renaults, including my sport clio.

If the sensor is not connected for any reason the temp will not display and the climate control won't work at all. If the sensor is broken you will get high temp readings (around 40) and the climate control will not function correctly.

In which side mirror right or left ?

Just out of interest I have the exact same
issue with my 02 megane and was just going to get this done at a garage. As a rough figure how much did the sensor cost?

this may sound very stupid, and i know this thread is probably dead now because its so old, but do you have to disconnect the battery before you cut the cables of the sensor to replace it?

Cheers

OK I've found some instructions and have done this now...

Use the mirror motor to point the mirror fully down.

Use a thin but WIDE tool such as a wooden spatula or similar to lever off the mirror glass which is clipped on - it should just pop off. Do NOT use something thin and hard like a screwdriver or you'll just break the mirror glass.

Remove the housing by pressing the 4 clips with the mirror angled slightly towards the car (easiest if someone else pulls on the housing simultaneously).

Once the rear housing is removed you can prise out the temp sensor using a small screwdriver from the mirror glass side and solder on the new one. Assure all connections are completely waterproof by using heat-shrink tubing. Any water shorts will ruin the temperature read out.

Hope this helps someone!

Did you work out how to do this? I have the same problem but can't find any instructions on how to fit it.
