My Scooter cut out on me twice in 48 hours. Why?

First time I was doing 65 mph on a dual carriage way ( it's a de-restricted 50 cc Gilera Stalker/ SKP )

I thought this was becauase I was pushing it too hard...It re-started after about 5 min...then the next day on my way to my first day at my new job...2 miles into the 7 mile journey..it cut out when I was doing 30-35 mph..in the rain...

Now could this be two seperate reasons or like 1st time I was pushing the small engine too hard and 2nd time pos becasue it was raining...?

Or do you think I have one problem?

Any advice/hints would be greatly appreciated before I ride it any distance again...

Thanks

My nsr 125 kept cutting out in the rain, i think its because water was being sprayed up from the front tyre onto the spark plug/ht lead, havn't found a perfect cure for it but a spray of wd-40 on all and surrouding areas before i set off usually does the trick.
Obviously this would only be the cure if it cuts out when its raining / when the roads are wet. What happens when it cuts out, do you just lose the spark? ie. if you try revving it more after its cut out can you hear it pushing fuel in but just no ignition?
if so this could be the reason...
