replacing a rocoil rope on a 306 or 245 is a giant pain in the ass. just be careful not to over wind the spring when you wind the rope. i lost a spring doing that so now my 306 donated its recoil to the 245

You will have to pull off the flywheel on the side with the recoil.
After taking off the flywheel you can remove the recoiler , replace the rope and reinstall. Not for children under 8.!!
