counter.cab would not manually delete for me, why?

How did you delete counter.cab? It has a trojan adwacheck virus in it. I went in manually and I still could not delete it. I also have Norton. There are also two counter.cab files, one with 1bit and one with 32bits or whatever there called. Which needed to be deleted? I tried both, didn't do a thing. Thanks for any help. This is actually my moms and she knows much less than me. Big Trouble

Thank you for your help. She has XP and I did go into system restore and shut off system restore. I don't know if safe mode came up, but it was manual, I think. Right-click options were only to copy to another file, no delete. I will try your way by going through the A drive. Thanks so much for your help.

What OS ( OPERATING SYSTEM ) are you running. First disable system restore if you are running WIn Me, 2K or XP. In any event log into safe mode and attempt to delete both files. Both of the must be deleted to remove the virus. They are probable located at C:counter.cab ? If the do not delete and you are running WIN95/96/me, then create a boot disc and boot you puter with it. when you get to A:\ type C:\ and hit "enter'it will switch directories. Then at C:\ type "delete C:\counter.cab and dos will delete your file . You can delete the other one the same way you just must know the path to it.
