engine light?

i have seen various answers to the engine light mainly being the ecu..... i bought the car a week ago and have had problems sometimes starting the car in the first place and then when it does start it judders and sometimes stall when i move up to second gear.... but after about 10 minutes of driving it drives fine.. i notice my engine management light is on but would the ecu cause the car not to go at all sometimes????
if so how much would it cost to get the ecu reset with the correct codes.... please answer as soon as because i am in great need of advice.

with an itermittant idle fault it could be the idle control valve if it is sticking it could cause some of the faults you have described

its a saxo.. does it sound like it could be the ecu though?
because it over revs alot aswel with out my foot on the accelerator which i have been told is a main sign of this

A main dealer charges are £80~160 depending on make but a non franchised dealer expect around £30~60 and untill you do get a diagnostic readout there is no way of knowing what the fault could be and you could be damaging the engine. As you only got the car last week take it back to the seller and get them to cover the costs
