How can I change a gearbox mount on a Mk6 Ford Escort 1.6?

I 'd like to change the rear gearbox mounting on my 1998 Escort Finesse (1.6 Zetec) - myself if possible, rather than have to pay someone else! Can anyone tell whether that is feasible and, if so, how to go about it? Thanks for any help.

It is possible, provided you have a trolley jack and ideally an airgun and sockets. I've never done one on this particular car myself, but the general procedure is to jack up under the sump, using a block of wood (important so as not to damage the sump). Take off anything that prevents you getting at the mounting, then unbolt the old one (some of the bolts may be very tight, hence airgun useful). Then bolt the new one on, fully tighten, replace any stuff removed and lower the jack.

However, if you're not sure, get a garage to do it, for safety sake :)
