I have an old John Deere 111 that had a 12 hp briggs engine model 281707?

type 0198-01 code 89022411. This motor has one wire coming from the alt and no wires coming from the bottom of the carb. The new engines that i'm looking at all seem to have two wires coming from the alt and a wire coming from the bottom of the carb. Can you tell me how to wire up these newer engines into my old mower. thank you for your time. John

The wire coming from the bottom of the carb. is the fuel shut off or tap, effectively...it needs 12v to allow petrol through. One of the wires from the engine will be the charging wire (maybe red) and the other one could be an ignition cut out (maybe black). There is a possibility that both wires can give out 12v though - depending really what the engine was designed for. Hope this helps!
