waterpump on gilera runner sp 50 2000 model please heeeeelp?

do i have to take the variator off to locate the water/oil pump

the oil pump is located under the variator, the water pump is located between the 2 crank case halves , complete engine split to access it, separating the 2 halves is a fairly major job,
