My Renault Kangoo has a water leak- HELP!?

My Renault Kangoo 02 diesel has a water leak. Looking at the engine from the bonnet side, it is on the right hand side of the engine where a large pipe enters a device that is attached to the side of the engine block. What is this device? There are several other pipes and an electrical feed into it. I thought it was the pump but that is elsewhere.
The water leak is next to the block and whatever this device is. Its quite difficult to get to.

Hi John, thanks for responding. On further examination today with a better torch it seems to be coming from the object above it- this is silver in colour with again one cable heading out of it towards the dash. Do you know what that is?

The leak is from where this object joins the engine. On tickover it is only a dribble- when revs are applied the water leak increases. A short 5 minute journey seems to drain the reservoir. Is this the end for my engine?!

Many thanks Ian

I think you are referring to the thermostat housing, made of black plastic? The electric wire is the temperature gauge feed.
