I was completely at a loss as to how to get my machine out of the test mode. Having lost the instruction manual thought the only solution was to buy a new one. Thanks for the advice, would never have thought of doing that, especially after the old unplugging trick failed to work!!

Have moved our 840 to Oz having bought it in UK - the TEST message had us stumped but thanks to the internet and folks happy to share their experiences all has worked out. We did as above, got the DOFF message and then started a wash cycle and hey presto it worked. Thanks everyone

Thanks......! For the answer my wife run into the same problem and your answer cured the problem......! It defently works for those of you looking to get your Hotpoint out of TEST MODE...

my mates wf840 had the same problem, so we followed the instructions. He didnt need to hold the start button but when the test cycle had finished, immediately before it goes back to 'on' he pressed both the start and on/off buttons and got the 'doff' msg and it cleared itself. (he said the buttons pushed in further than the normal 'touch' distance- if that makes sense!). Anyway he said thanks for the advice.

I had the same problem, but all is okay now!

Hotpoints are designed to go into test mode when the start button and the on/off button are pressed at the same time. If you are stuck in Test mode, simply hold the start button down until it comes out of test mode, then hold both the start buttons and the on/off button down until you see ‘D:end’ (or similar message). Now try setting up a wash again and hey presto, it's just fine.

[My message was doff)
