my vauxhall zafira 1.8 cuts out intermittantly at junctions or when gearing down. i have also noticed that if the vehicle is left idling i.e in heavy traffic, the engine management light comes on. It resets once the ignitioon is switched off and then restarted.

I removed intake pipe from manifold box and sprayed carb cleaner directly into box while my son kept vehicle at half revs. I then sprayed again with engine stopped and left five minutes before starting again. A final spray while running at half revs, and no more problems. I tested car in snow on stop start conditions with heavy traffic, over 3 hours continual stop, start due to bad weather and ice. Not one stall during all of that. Problem solved !!

i had similar problem zafira 1.8 comfort cutting out at the traffic lights,roundabouts,junctions,etc.for a year.took the car to few garages no luck then someone cleaned the carburettor and since then the problem has gone away.it was full of dirt.

Sounds like a similar problem I had. Have a look at where the spark plugs are, I had oil in some of mine, had to have a new rocker gasket

Hi Martin, it sounds like the idle conrol valve is stuck, causing the engine to stall and as the engine ECU controlls the valve if it doesnt see a response to its command to the idle valve it will put on the fault light the valve needs to be taken off the inlet manifold cleaned or replaced if you remove it clean it with a carburettor cleaner to remove the petrol deposits, if you dont know where the valve lives contact me on nige110162@hotmail.co.uk and I will mail you the details (free)
