anyone know how i would be able to get the rope out of the little hole?

You'll really need a complete new length of starter cord to fix this one....the trouble is, the mechanism connects to a large coil spring which will happily disconnect and fly over the garden wall. However a dealer will fix this for you quite cheaply, especially if you can unbolt the recoil housing from the engine and just take that along.
