U can get the proper oil filter socket out of hein gerrick for about a £5.00, if u have damaged the canister and it will no longer fit on the socket i would use a small chisel and tap it round at the base of the filter, making sure u dont come into contact with the engine casings. i found these filters just desintigrate if u try any form of strap wrench on them.Buy the tool for future use anyway.

The Honda filters have a hexagon head, and you can buy a 'cup' spanner to fit it - this has a 3/8" drive usually. Have you tried this? If so, use a chain wrench but expect the filter to crush severely. You can also buy stainless steel strap wrenches (fabric ones aren't much use) - the notched band grips the filter really tightly and the handle can be tightened with a wrench...good luck with this particular nightmare!
