Mk III (1999)Mondeo, rear brake cylinder retraction (to replace pads)?

I tried to replace the pads on my Mondeo, managed to take the old ones out easily, but I could not push the cylinder back to enable me to put the new pads in.
How do you do that ?

Nigel, I have the same trouble with trying to change the rear brakeshoes on my Opel Zafira (year 2001, with ABS): do you think your method (turning the piston in, clockwise, I suppose) is going to work on my Zafira as well? Thanks, Umberto (Rome Italy)

you have to turn the piston in its on a screw thread you can buy a special tool to do this but if you put a flat bit of steel across the slots in the piston it makes it easy to wind it in
