Hotpoint CDT40, how to get the top off?

I think the belt has come adrift in my CDT40

I am trying to open the machine to see, but I cannot get the top off. I found the 2 screws at the back of the top, but the top is firmly fixed to the control pannel.

Any one have any tips to getting inside. it looks like I need to get the top off to be able get the sides off.

Thanks

yes if you remove both screws then push very firmly the front edge of the top panel it will come off
