my golf doesnt start , it trys to start but not creating a spark at the spark plugs any ideas wat it could be ?

I had a similar issue with a MKIII 97. Replaced coil, loom and various other parts, but to no avail. It was a simple prodecure to cure. Yep you guessed it..............Clean carbon from throttle housing

i have a mark3 golf gti 8v on a 97, it starts fine from cold but after bout 20 mins will cut out the relays will start clicking the oil light will flash, few mins later the car will start but carrys on cuttin out ive changed everything, relays, coil, leads, dizzy cap, oil pressure switches it seems this is a common fault on this year and ive been told by a mechanic 2day the fuse box is at fault so thats my next step, will give an update soon

Coil/Hall sender/ H.T Leads/ Plugs/AMM/Relays, get a diagnostics check, you could end up chasing your tail, throwing money at it when a VAG-COM will give you the right fault code and sort the problem 1st time.

hi there my mk 3 golf gti cut out last week and now wont start it turns over fine but doesnt seem to want to fire.
the fuel pump is working as i can hear it however the oil light on the dash has began to flash.............any ideas as its really startin to annoy me

back again before you mess with the lead from the chip to the
ecu first change the ecu relay in the fuse box as these are prone to to giving the mk3 jip and a code reader will not pick
the problem up i know this question is two months old but i hope if you have been stuck this helps you out
ps the part in question won,t cost much from vw ,eurocar parts
german swedish frech car parts (yellow pages)
im 99% sure its the relay

I HAVE JUST REPLACED THE COIL ON MY GTI BUT I AM NOW INVESTIGATING THE CHIP ON THE IGNITION
IF YOU TAKE OFF THE BOTTOM COVER OF THE STEERING WHEEL SHROUD TWO PHILLIPS SCREWS UNDERNEATH THE
STEERINGWHEEL YOUWILL BE LOOKING AT A SMALL BLOCK
ABOUT AN INCH SQUARE WITH A PLUG WITH 4 FINE WIRES
PLUGED INTO IT I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS PLUG CONNECTS TO THE ECU AND IT IS A COMMON FAULT (CAR TURNS OVER BUT WILL NOT START,CUTS OUT WHEN DRIVING,
STOP THE CAR ENGINE TURNS OVER WILL NOT START
YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG THE 4 WIRED PLUG TRACE THE WIRES
TO THE ECU WHICH IS UNDER THE CARPET AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND CLEAN THE METAL CONTACTS ON THE PLUG
AND CHIP AND ECU THIS IS A COMMON FAULT ON THE MK3
YOU WOULD BE WISE TO USE A PROPER ELECTRICAL CONTACTS SPRAY AVAILABLE FROM MAPLINS ELECTRONICS
STORE AS THE CONTACTS ARE VERY FINE AND NOT MAKING
MATERS WORSE BY USING SAND PAPER OR SCREWDRIVERS
AS THIS ONLY MAKE THE CONTACTS LOSE
