Oil burning emissions?

What would cause oil burning emissions to come through the air vents when engine is warmed up? 1997 Vauxhall Vectra.
The smell is stronger when car is switched of for a short while (about 2-10 minutes) then started up again.

Check for any oil leaks around the engine - especially any that could drip onto the exhaust manifold, where they burn off.
