Absolute beginner wants to fix a dent/hole in a mirror dinghy?

I have access to a Mirror that was thrown by the wind recently. The first job is to see if I can fix the hull which is dented with a crack of 6 inches or so. All of the wood is there it is just dented and splintered/cracked. I would like to fix the mirror 'cos it breaks my heart to see it lying useless!! I have the time and the motivation but no knowledge or skills (as yet!)

I'm at the very beginning of my research into what needs to be done so any practical advice would be gratefully received especially the really basic stuff. An overview of what the job entails would be fantastic! Further reading/book recommendations would help immensely.

spilts and cracks are easy to fill with todays modern methods ie wood filler and sand down and repaint,,but if you are thinking of repacing a panal its not that hard,,take off the damaged panal and use it as a teplate for the new marine plywood and get the same thickness wood as the old one and if you are useing screws to screw in the new panal use stainless steel as brass ones will weaken in time,,dot forget to seal the frame before you put the new wood on,,if you have enymore questions email me at barryluke1@hotmail.com,,ps i was a boat repairer but lost intrest in wooden boats,,dont be afraid to take old panels off try to find the old screws first and take em out
