Hi Nairn, the cable I use is an ELM327 (around £40)as it covers more vehicles you can get them with either 9 pin serial plug or usb depends what your laptop has, some of the free download software is limited in what it will do, I use a program called Pro-Scan you download the program but untill you pay £35 and get the unlock serial number will it work fully untill then it only works in demo mode, there is a guy on ebay who lists a Vauxhaul software program I think its "Grendon" again you pay around £30 The other thing is as your is a 98 model it doesn't have to comply with the EOBD standard, as for oil burners its only post 2005 that have to comply, but I have found that even pre 2001 petrol cars will work fine back as far as 96 models
