How do i find the fault on my rover 400 1.6i which completly died on me?

I have checked the head gasket and that is fine. it only turns over and will not fire up. the oil is fine. i'm wondering if the piston rings have gone or is there some other common fault?

Help please.

hi ian, it may be the ecu the cars brain so to speek i'll ask my mate tomorrow in the garage and see what he thinks.
