cleaned out the coils and drain line and let frige unplugged for over 24hrs.
Pluggede fridge and started coling and about one hr later glass with water started to freeze,but it stopped again..Fan works,but compressor cycles on an off
where is thermostat located

from your description of comp cycling indicative of comp failure, there is a overload device on the comp( Klixon ) which will cut in and out due to current o/l ie comp will not get past start and into run cycle
