Renault Megane Cabriolet Hood not going down, any advice?

Hi everyone,

It's an absolutely gorgeous day and I've gone to put my hood down on my car and it won't go down!

I can undo the hood but the when I'm pressing the button to take the hood down automatically nothing is happening!

Can you suggest anything for me to check and how to check it before I take it to a renault dealer and they charge me a fortune?!

My car is a 1999 Megane Cabriolet 1.6...

Any help or advice would be welcomed.

mine is at the renault dealer as it goes half way down and stops - and beeps.

they said it is leaking hydraulic oil - if the pipes then £200 parts only - if the ram (?) then £500 parts only - I only hope it's not the ram...

Hi Jenna

I had the same thing on my 1998 2 litre megane convertible. I think its something to do with disabling the Cat 2 alarm. Anyway you can manually lower the hood. Undo the handle and push the hood up as you would normally. Get out of the car and lift the rear section of the hood so that its verticle upright. It should automatically release the compartment cover which can then be lifted up. Watch out its heavy.

You will then be able to fold the hood into its compartment. If your motors working it will do this aswell but remember to hold the compartment lid up. Close compartment as usual.

These instructions are also downloadable from the Renault web site under owners manuals in pdf format.

I hope this helps.

Is the power hood button beeping when you press it?

If it is, a couple of things you can try is ensuring your windows in the front and back are down and ensuring the handbrake is engaged.

If these don't help then I can't really help any further.
