Briggs and Stratton HP470 and oil leak?

My lawnmower has been really reliable but it has sprung an oil leak which seems to be coming from out of the engine and dripping down the 'exhaust(?) causing a lot of smoke. Sorry I cant be more technical - I am trying to find an online manual so I can use the proper terminology but no luck as yet. Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

My HP470 had similar symptoms with oil running out of the exhaust and running very rough. After a lot of trial and error it actually turned out to be a split diaphragm under the carburettor (the commonest fault). I recommend you check this first as two nuts removed and 5 screws later you may find it can be fixed for a few pennies.
