GE WASHER WCVH6260 - PAUSE light keeps flashing, then machine stops?

Pause light flashes after wash cycle, then machine does not restart. We have to un-pause it to continue. does it again before rinse cycle.

Neil, you've done it again.!!!! Very simple fix as you've explained at the bottom of this forum. Just a warning...wear gloves! You'll find some interesting items in the drain once the fiter cap is removed. Please follow Neil's very simple and detailed instructions. Even my husband, who wanted to call the repair man, was impressed. Thanks again Neil:)))

i have checked the filter and ran the code test and my washer will pause everytime at the 13 minute mark and its like it wants to still fill with water. i have to turn it off and run the drain cycle everytime.. i have checked everything.. what else could it be??????

I need to add accolades to Neil and to the rest of you for your input. We found 96 cents, hair pins, a religious medal, a marble, bits of clothing "bling," and a pair of underwear. Underwear! The machine is now running beautifully. I am very thankful for the advice.

3rd time service guy replacing control board and still does not not spin. According to this guy, all the switches controlling the other mechanisms are working and motor is working, so what is the problem??? This machine is a piece of crap. If GE did the right thing and recalled all these machines, they would have many long term customers. But, they pretend that there isn't an inherent problem with this design... Please help.

Neil, you are the MAN! If I could hug you, I would. I also found a wedding ring, but as I am a new homeowner who thought I was stuck with a dud washer (wtf, why does it keep stopping? And is there sulfur in my water?), it wasn't mine. Everybody, watch out for how much water can come out. I was ready and it required 2 pans full to the brim! Thanks again, Neil!

Thank you so much for this tip. We have had our washer about four years and never thought about cleaning this out, until the machine started stopping mid cycle. You should have seen what we cleaned out of that filter. Ick! We plan on doing this about once a year now.

This was the problem with my machine as well. I followed Neils instructions and the washer is working fine. This is a 10-15 minute fix. It's easy to do your self and you can avoid a service call.

You guys are incredible. We've been struggling along for months with this problem and couldn't spend $ to call someone out. It would have been the 3rd time between the W/D set we bought in Mar. 2006. My son was going to get it fixed but my daughter suggested I go online and look for help!!! And to think I wasted time on the manual that doesn't even mention cleaning out this filter. It took me, a grandma only 10 minutes, I just ran a cycle and it worked perfectly. Thank You so much!

My Ge frount load washer pauses after the unit drains. It starts to drain at 44 on the cycle. I can see the water draining and can hear it when it's empty. At 41 on the counter it pauses. I push the button it starts than a few seconds later it pauses than it will restart and run the rest of the cycle. After the unit drains and I reset the pause the unit starts to fill. Shouldn't it spin first?

Thank you very much!! We had the same problem, the washer would stop before spinning out everything and the cloths would be very wet at the end of a cycle. We took the three screws off the front, unscrewed the filter and presto. Problem solved. I love sites like this where we can help each other!!

Thanks so much!!! I've spent the last 4 days trying to figure out what the problem was and this solved it in about 10 min. Can't believe that GE doesn't put this in the manual - it was so easy to fix I'd be really ticked off if I paid a service guy to come do it and saw that all he did was clean a filter.

Great website! Found a large sock, 42 cents, and some duct tape in the white round filter compartment. We're back in business. This should absolutely be listed in the Troubleshooting section of the owner's manual!

Cleaned the filter trap as well. Remove bottom panel by removing 3 screws near base of the washer. Use a philips head screw driver or a 7mm nut driver. Found my wedding ring during my maintenance of the filter trap. Also had to remove hose leading to the trap by using pliers to release the hose clamp. I discovered play coins that were too big to get to the trap.

I confirm the information above regarding a clogged filter. It is indeed located behind the bottom panel, held in place by three Phillips screws. Remove panel. Locate white filter access. Be careful as water will flow out when removing cover. My filer was clogged with coins, key, hair pins, lint, name it. Once the dirt removed, I put everything back in place, made a test and Bingo! It works. I have GCVH6260 model sold in Quebec only.

Thank you, thank you!! My washer is doing the same thing and I didn't want to have to spend $125 for a service call. My neighbor owns an appliance store but doesn't sell GE. He wasn't sure about the problem either but all the things you all describe are the same here. I also read the manual and found no solution. What a stupid troubleshooting section. I think they just want you to call a repairman! I plan to fix it tonight.

Thanks to Neil, howtomendit.com and Google as well. The description given by Neil was the same issue for me as well.

I cleaned out two years of crud and the rinse cycle (used that for the test) went through perfectly.

I agree that it is troubling that this is not mentioned anywhere in the manual, nor is the Flashing Start/Pause button flashing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We're having the same problem with ours (pausing mid-cycle, won't start up again until you unpause it). I've had the machine a little over two years, and so I guess it's high time we cleaned the pump filter. Hopefully this solves our problem!

Neil was right on! Took 5 minutes to remove the 3 screws (we have the lower drawer unit). Took out 'gunk' the size of a tube of racket balls (coins, hair, dollar bills .. etc). Clearing the filter also solved the problem of 'smelly' clothes we have had for 6 months (no help from the GE service line).

GE is a bunch of idiots. We have only had our machine 12 months. This is obviously 'regular maintenance' kind of stuff (kind of like periodically cleaning the lint filter on the washing machine) and GE doesn't even make the 3" cap accessible from the outside. I checked the manual and these problems are not even FAQ's in the manual:
* machine 'pauses' between every cycle (push start to continue)
* clothes smell musty
* water doesn't drain
* cycles (consistently) take longer than timer says
* clothes still soaking wet even after spin cycle ... etc)

Our machine now runs like new. I was told by GE that a "GE certified" service technician will contact me within 5 days to set up a visit. The solution took 15 minutes. Thanks Neil

Your filter is clogged. With the machine drained and unplugged remove the bottom front panel. (mine has 3 screws at the bottom, then just lower and pull out.) You will see a 3 inch cap. Place a deep pan in front of the cap and unscrew it. When it is loose pull it out and that is the filter. Mine had hair hair ties pennies dimes buttons and lint the size of 2 golf balls.
Clean this out, screw it back in (mine had alignment marks) and run it. check for leaks and replace the panel (the hardest part since you have to lay flat to see the screw holes).
