My treadmill need repairs?

The motor on my treadmill smells, and my belt keeps slidding. All screws are tight, but when I'm walking or running on the treadmill, the motor smells, and the belt slides. What can I do about this matter? I don't want to pay a lot of money for parts or repairs.

Thanks!

when i switch the treadmill on, it moves for 7 seconds only before it all shuts down. The control panel lights up as normal when switched on and all looks normal. its as if the motor cuts out as it starts to get going, but always at 7 seconds. If you switch of at the wall and on again it comes back on as normal but does exactly the same thing.

Hi, I have a 5 yr old Horizon Ti51 HRC Treadmill & had no probs with it until recently. The problem i'm getting is a really bad smell, almost like ammonia, generally after 25 - 50 minutes use. It's so bad, the whole house smells within minutes. I called Horizon 6 wks ago. An engineer came out & fitted a new motor & i was charged £111. I pointed out to him also that during use, the elevation motor would periodically engage for a split second, without me pressing any buttons, every 3 or 4 minutes. He didn't think this was important, but checked everything, lubricated & tightened the belt & left. I used the treadmill the next day & after 25 minutes the smell returned, worse than before. I contacted Horizon again & the engineer returned 3 wks later! I used the machine for 1 hour before he came, hoping the problem would recurr, & it did, but the smell was much less noxioux than before & the engineer claimed the smell was normal. Anyway, since he left the smell has returned worse than ever, after just 20 - 30 minutes use & i'm at my wits end. The smell really is unbearable, burning the nostrils. It smells dangerous. The treadmill stands off the carpet, on a mat. It takes a 3 pin right-angle cable. The engineer pointed out i was using a pc cable to power it, but that it shouldn't make any difference. I have since replaced with the correct cable, but to no avail. It might be worth pointing out also that I can run the treadmill with nobody on it for an hour or more without it smelling at all & without any component parts getting hot. Can anybody help?

I have a duratec XT1100S treadmill who I believe are no longer trading? during a run the machine jumped to full speed without any warning. I turned it off and then back on again to see if it would reset itself. The display came back up but could not enter any commands or select automatic programs, and after about a minute the screen cleared its normal display and showed E1 in the centre bottom section. The machine is less than 2 years old and done less the 60 hours service. Are there any recognised spares and repair agents?

my treadmill lights up but doesn't move, checked the belt it's ok, what else could it be?

my treadmill is only 8 months old and was fine till 2 days ago when it started making a clicking noise. it does this everytime the belt is in motion. dosent matter if you stand on it or not as long as the belt is moving the noise is there. speed dosent matter either. the clicking noise seems to be coming from the back of the rollers

just read my answer (below) - where I say to lubricate it, I mean the treadmill belt not the motor. Do not try to lubricate the motor - it won't like it!

www.northwick.eu, April 2009
If the belt is sliding then this will be a problem either with the roller alignment or tension. The motor smell could be mistaken for the smell of the belt rubbing which can produce a burning smell similar. If it genuinely is the motor which is smelling then this indicates it is being overloaded - lubricate it - or worse, the damage may be too far gone and a new motor will be needed.

Suggest you first check the alignment to make sure the belt is running true and not creeping over to one side. The rollers can be adjusted to compenate for this.

The tension can be increased by screwing out the adjusters at the rear of the board. Don't over do this as it could increase load on the motor and drive electronics. Just tension it enough so as the belt does not slip (judder) when you are running.

Make sure the treadmil belt (not the motor belt) is lubrucated underneath with silicon oil.

Hope this helps.

Hi there I bought a Vitesse Extreme Motion treadmill from UK Sport over two years ago. So far I had replaced two front rollers already, despite that the treadmill was used only about 20 minutes each session, a few times a week and at speed between 5 km/hr and 6.5 km/hr. After replacing the front roller the second time the other day, I turned on the treadmill which ran for about 10 seconds. Then it stopped, but the power was still on and the console displaced 'E1' on the screen. I tried all the other programs, the same problem persisted, stopping at about 10 seconds. I then changed the computer console as I got a spare one with a damaged screen. I got the same problem again. I also checked all the multi-plugs and connections, they appeared all fine.

I didn't have this problem when I replaced the first front roller last year.

I would be most grateful if you could advise me whether there is something wrong with the circuit board.

You have 3 places that can slip on a treadmill.
1. The walking Belt. When they slip they make a shush
Kind of sound.
2. Drive belt. They normally squeak when they slip.
3. The plastic pulley can loose its grip on the roller and spin instead of move the belt. It usually makes a zing kind of sound.
Remove the motor hood. Turn on the treadmill and walk.
When it slips look down at the front roller were the drive belt is.
If the walking belt is slipping, The walking belt will stop, but the motor, drive belt, and front roller will continue to move.
If the drive belt is loose, the walking belt and front roller
Will stop, but the motor will still turn. It can also make a burning smell.
If the plastic pulley on the front roller looses its grip, the motor, plastic pulley and drive belt will move but the walking belt and front roller will stop.
To tighten the drive belt you would need to move the motor.
If you can send me a picture of the motor and bolts I could tell you how to adj. it.

What concerns me is the smell. If your motor brushes are going bad they will spark and smell. If your belt and deck are worn or need lube, it can make it slip, smell go off track and blow your lower electronic board.
To try something fast, get some silicone spray from Napa auto parts. The silicones model # is 8300. Spray it on top of the deck and under the belt. Then walk it in.
If this doesn’t help you have one of the conditions above. I have a video on this.
