Blue sparks from machine, why?

When I switch my machine on blue sparks fly out from the bottom of the machine and then the fuse blows. Could this be the brushes that need replacing? Any other ideas would be well received....thanks

Hi.

UNPLUG THE WASHING MACHINE!!

When you remove the lid trace the mains power cable comming in to the rear of the washing machine. Ensure that the cable hasn't come loose where it should connect to a large suppression capacitor. (a aluminium can)

If the fault is not obvious then check the can for black marks etc.

You will probably have to replace the suppression capacitor.
