press button inside car to open boot but doesn't open, why?

Modeo 1.9LX Turbo Diesel manual 02 model

I press the button in car to open the boot but it doesn`t make any noise but you can feel an empty click. I can open the boot with the key and I can open it remotely from the keyfob.
Any help will do.

Hi, the tailgate will not open with the button if the ignition is on the key has to be out of the ignition switch before the button will work
