My AEG Santo 3688-6KA Upright Refrigerator (Fridge only) has for several weeks tried to self-defrost more frequently than it should, recently every few hours even though there has been no ice. Now it will not work at all. Clicks can be heard every few seconds and the temperature display flickers, whilst showing a dash ( - ), i.e. above 8 deg C. I have cleaned it inside and out, the filter is good, and it is properly ventilated. The alarm sounds and keeps re-starting even when I have pressed the "silent" button.

I have the same fridge and almost the same problem. Some of the time it works for up to 1 hr (and the temp starts to fall on the read out) but the the clicking on and off starts again and the temp just climbs back up. Would be very interested in a DIY solution as I've since relocated to Spain and the electrolux network here said they can't help. An exploded diagram would be helpful if one exists on the internet as would any pointers for how to test so i can source the correct parts. The fridge cost about £650 and has had little more than 2 years use (was in storage for a long time), so i'm obviously keen to resurrect it. Many thanks in advance.

sounds like a faulty compressor or could be a faulty starter but not easy to tell you which without testing it
