siren noise on acceleration, citroen picasso?

i have just had a citroen picasso 2.0hdi sx 51 plate and have noticed a sound similar to a siren when accelerating? is this normal as i have never owned a diesel hdi before and really unsure? The first time i heard it i slowed down thinking police or ambulance was following me, thats how it sounds!! any help would be appreciated.

I have a Touran that suddently started making a siren noise (dentists drill to more exact) and it turned out to be the bearings in the turbo charger. You will need a new or reconditioned turbo. Cost of a new one ifrom a VW dealer is around £1200 excluding labour etc. You can get yours reconditioned for a round £700 including fitting from a turbo repair specialist. If you carry on driving it the bearing seals will go and you will end up with all your engine oil being sucked out of your engine in the blink of an eye - mechanical armageddon!!

I had a similar noise on my Touran diesel (I thought an ambulance was trying to get past, but I was alone on the road). For me it was the Turbo charger failing! It is worth having it checked out as there can be a very nasty failure due to overheating of the diesel fuel, or so the VW dealer told me!

thanks mike but its not that type of noise, i know the noise a fanbelt slipping etc makes and this is different, think will have to take it to a citroen dealer and let them have a listen

Hi;

I am no expert on these car's but just thinking it may be worth checking the rubber belts under the bonnet for wear / tightness..
