hi, trouble is close door, switching on, but when press start button for any of the cycles it simple doesn't work, except on the odd occasion.

There are two filters, there is the one in the door and there is also another one. If you open the panel on the front below the door you will see another large filter which lifts out clean that then you should be away. Hope this helps
