I put some clothes which I thought were dry on top of a table. Overnight some dampness remaining on the clothes caused small blisters to form on the table & once wiped the varnish came off the table changing the colour of the table in that area. How can I repair this?
An old technique from my mother-in-law was to place a towel over the surface of the table top and use a very warm iron to gradually heat the surface by ironing over the towel. The heat will soften the finish and expel the moisture. This is much simpler and safer than refinishing the top not to mention the cost saving.

Rub down table, with progressively finer sandpaper ... wipe with white spirit (several times) then apply 3 coats of Ronseal Quick Dry satin varnish ... light sanding between coats.
