how do i reset my petrol guage for my rover 214 si as it says its full even when cars stopped cos no petrol in.

i have disconnect the electrical wiring. The gauge falls to zero when i connect it it goes full again what have i missed help

The gauge is worked by a float unit inside the tank itself, which appears to be stuck fully up. Often the tank entrance is below the rear seat cushions but I don't know about yours. Follow the fuel flow/return pipes into the tank unit, and disconnect the electrical wiring. The gauge should fall to zero if I'm right.
