Ford KA Brake problem?

When I press the brakes hard to actaually stop when in traffic jam the brakes make a dry springy scrapping noise in the motion of the wheel, spin, when I release the brake a get a metal clunking noise, but this only happens on a longish run ie over 15 miles.
My garage has checked and cleaned brakes, new pads and checked the bearing - he is at a loss.

gf is trying to find master cylinder on 2002 ka with a 2.3 engine she was told it was connected directly to the fill spout under the bonet but I thought it was just forward of the brake pedal in the front bottom portion of the car under it so to speak but am american the the terms over there are different from here

I wonder if the garage made sure that any anti rattle clips that secure the pads are actually in place, and that the back plates are clear of the disc itself.....also, are you absolutely certain that the noise is coming from the front, not the back?
