How to get the gear shift to work properly?

I own a 1998 Ford Taurus and recently my car can not get out of the park gear. The car still work but I can not change the gear of the car no matter how hard I pull on the gear shift. How can I fix this problem on my car?

I have the same problem. I found that with the batt. unhooked . You turn the car on you can move it out of park. That said ,I removed the connector at the inerlock , it's under the dash on the colum , black conn. with two wires and now you can start the car in park and shife into drive.
