I have checked that the cable hasn't broke and have bought a new unit but it still isnt working, any suggestions greatly appreciated.

have youngot a new speedo drive?if so then you need to take the cable off the speedo head in the clocks and spin the front wheel to see if the cable is actually spinning aound if not then theres a problem with the cable fitting in the drive fully or the speedo drive is faulty,if the cabel does spin ok then the speedo head is faulty.
