how can I fix my weedeater?

The engine runs fine, it takes the gas fine and revs properly but the spool will not turn. It looks like its trying to turn, but can't.

This is an Electrolux engine gas weedeater. Family: 2004 California/US EPA Ph2, Display: 4PWES.0254TK, if that means anything.

I think there is a problem with these units.Mine has a label that says it is refurbished. The cable is ok, but the spool seems to have melted around the alloy boss that is screwed onto the drive dog at the end of the shaft.I'll need a whole new spool assembly.

If you can remove the spool itself, Denise, you'll find a flexible driveshaft (a bit like a coiled cable) that connects the engine to the spool. The chances are that it has disconnected itself and you'll need to check if it has snapped or simply come adrift. It often happens if the fixing screws come loose, allowing the engine to disconnect itself from the drive cable. PS you're lucky if you have weeds to cut...over here they haven't appeared above the layers of ice...!
