How do I change the brake lights on my 1994 Ford Escort LX?

How do I know which bulb to remove when changing the brake lights on my 1994 Ford Escort LX?There are three bulbs at the back. Which is the one for the brakes? Also the stop light fixed on the door of the trunk is not working despite putting in a new bulb. How can I fix that?

Out of the three bulbs locate the one with 2 elements in it.
1 bulb is signal, 1 is reverse and 1 is night driving and brake.
The signal and reverse have 1 element. The night driving and brake have 2. Look closely at the bulb and replace the one with 2 elements.
The lighting system on cars is inline DC power. If 1 bulb goes out it can cause others to fail.
