foot pedal control on Frister Rossmann 404?

I have a second-hand Frister + Rossman 404 which works fine for sewing seams but I can't control the speed very well with the foot pedal. The slightest touch seems to lead to high needle speed. I can occasionly make it slow down but I can't maintain a slow speed for more than a second or two. Any suggestions on how to get better control of the speed?

Thanks

Hello Fig,
The chances are that the carbon discs inside the control have broken away, the best thing to do is to get yourself a new foot control only, YDK is the favourite and they are cheap enough, only two wires to wire in and very easy, if you have a sewing machine shop nearby they should stock them or if you want to buy on line in the UK try www.sewingonline.co.uk/instructions , if you are in the US or other I don't have any sites for foot control spares.
