lawnmower will not start, new battery?

I just put in a new battery (yard machine), it will not turn over only clicks. I want to check to see if the selonoid is bad but not sure how to do that. Can you provide a diagram with instructions?

If the selonoid is good, what should I check next?

Thank You

Hi Lisa
Sounds like the starter solenoid this is located in between the battery and the starter or mounted on the starter this quite common problem to test this you will have to disconnect the + lead from the solenoid to the starter leaving the + from the battery, put your meter from the – of the battery to lug you have taken the lead from turn the key it should click and show 12v. If it does not show this you will need to test to see if you are getting a signal to the solenoid by disconnecting the small lead that goes to it .leaving the meter on the – side of battery put the other on the small lead you just disconnected turn the key if you get 12v then it’s the solenoid if you don’t then its one of your safety switches , if you have two small lead going to the solenoid disconnect both and put the meter between the two. One final thing if you do not have a meter a 12v test bulb will do hope this helps any problems or if you require anything contact me via my website Quince www.swalelawnmowerandlandscapingservices.co.uk
