how do I remove gum from clothing after it's already been washed and dried?

My son got gum on his pants and I didn't know. I washed and dried them and the gum is hard. How do I get it off his pants? They are starter pants material.

Put them in the freezer for a few hours then you might be able to break the gum off the pants
