I have a whale elite mixer tap leaking from the centre?

I have a Whale Elite mixer tap that looks like it is leaking from the centre or inner workings of the tap is this something like a seal that is reairable or do I need to get a new one.

I have not taken it apart yet but would appreciate any advice on how to do this if it possible.

Thanks

Just repaired my Whale shower mixer, 2011 chrome model, which had frozen. Unscrewed round chrome lever which revealed grub screw (allen key needed); when that was loosened the cover came off, unscrewed filler plate, undid brass nut and the cartridge can be removed. Mine had cracked internally. New one £11.95 from Elddis dealer, job done. Easy, about five minutes.

I had a similar problem with my whale elite mixer tap on my caravan. I found that it was the two rubber sealing rings that seal the swivel water nozel. I found that if you take out the rubber rings and wrap PTFE tape round the groove and then replace the rings it increases the diameter of the rings and puts increased pressure on the seal preventing water seepage. Just smear the rings with a little vaseline to allow smoother re-assembly

Our Whale Elite tap was leaking from the centre, we took the red and blue plug out, used an Allen key to undo the little nut inside and remove the lever, remove the top part of the chrome part by hand then using a spanner undo the washer holding the cartridge in place, once this is free remove the cartridge, you can inspect the 'O' rings on the bottom for any damage, if there is no damage to them open the cartridge up (there is 2 little clips that need pushing in) and you should see if there is a crack, if there is then it needs replacing. You can order the replacement cartridge from caravan-components.co.uk for £5.00 plus £3.50 delivery, look for ceramic cartridge valve 35mm for lever mixer taps, alternatively like we did check ebay from the same company for £6.80 free delivery. Very easy to take apart and fit.

Just bought a Autosleeper motorhome, same problem with tap, ordered new cartridge from notjusttaps.com it arrived within two days, job sorted. Thanks Chris your a star.

Very common problem when the tap has been frozen. Before winter always drain down system with TAP OPEN. The cartridge-valve will have an internal leak or be cracked. Whale Elite is made by Munster Simms Engineering Ltd N Ireland 028 8127 0531. Unfortunately they wont sell replacement cartridges. Not all is lost because this is a standard cartridge and notjusttaps.com will. You need a NJRTV35CD cost £14 + £3.95 PP
Take old tap apart. Lever off the red/blue insert on top of the lever. You will probably damage it. Undo screw underneath. Lift off lever and unscrew outer case. Remove microswitch and carefully unscrew top retaining disk. The cartridge-valve lifts out.
Fit is the reverse of dismantle but you may have damaged Red/Blue top insert. Whole job cost £17.95. Better than cost of a new tap £60+

just had the same problem, spent time and money replacing parts, in the end had to buy a new tap

Some times the spout which is 2 long breaks near the base they now do one with shorter stem in elite but hard to find

R gibbons, August 2008
If you prise out the red/blue on the top then the screw is there.

The spout then just pulls off. There are two rubber rings (the top one in two parts). With the replacement spout (£15) they only sell you the bottom ring. For the top one it looks like you need a new tap (£75).........

Sorry but you need to replace the tap. My experience says you mess around with a tap for an hour and it still leaks, might as well put a new one in. Plenty of Whale taps about but they are expensive compared to other makes. If you can, you could replace with a Reich or other make.
