faulty drivers door handle?

The drivers door handle on my ford Ka 2(w reg is faulty), I can open the door from inside but not the outside. It seems as though the lock mechanism has become disconnected.I have taken the inner door panel off, but the lock has a steel cover over it. How do I remove this cover to access the lock mechanism.
Please help.
Thanks Chris.

Hi Chris, the cover is held in place by two large phillips screws and some sealant, the screws are on the bottom of the door and above the three screws for the latch assembly,it takes a bit of juggling to get the cover out, but with the cover removed you will have access to the outer handle linkage, if its not as obvious as a disconnected linkage, remove the three screws for the latch assy pull the latch out remove the plastic cover and spray it with wd40 it might cure the fault but there is a little spring that should hold the mechanism up this often falls off and is never found again if so you will need a new latch assy. Good luck!
