How can I get my Peugeot 306 to start?

I have a Peugeot 306 1.4 litre S registration. I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery and then replaced a faulty ignition barrel. I then reconnected the battery, and the car wouldn't start. It ticked over but wouldn't kick in to life. Before replacing the ignition barrel it was starting fine. What could be the problem?

Hi David, by disconnecting the battery the engine ECU has lost it engine parameters and it is operating in a degraded mode try leaving it idling for 10mins then try to drive it for 10~15 miles this will make the ECU relearn its settings if this fails it will need a diagnostic reader to find the cause
