A belt on my escort makes a deafening noise & the revs drop down low when i start up the engine, then 30 seconds later it all goes back to normal. Is this the timing belt & is it easily repairable??

Hope its not the timing belts mate (2 on these) - the fault is more likely to be the alternator / PAS belt that needs tightening, easy enough done from underneath. If you're not certain about the noise, take the alternator belt off and start up to hear if the noise has gone.
